Bem-vindo ao "Summer Singing!"
Welcome to "Summer Singing!"
Summer Singing is a residential/non-residential choral course for both amateur and professional singers, located in the historic and picturesque city of Braga in northern Portugal (from 29th September to 1st August), organised and hosted by the Portuguese vocal ensemble Capella Duriensis.
The musical director is Jonathan Ayerst (Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and Associate of the Royal Academy of Music), who will be joined this year by Alan Woodbridge who is the current Chef du Choer du Grand Théâtre de Genève. Visiting professors have recently included Vitor Lima (Viana Vocale) and Simon Carrington (founding member of The King's Singers, and currently Professor Emeritus at Yale University).
Singers can apply to work at Level 1 (amateur with some choral experience), Level 2 (musically trained with some professional experience), or Level 3 (advanced or professional standard). Candidates at all levels will be coached in choral technique and musical interpretation. They will participate in daily rehearsals, warm-up sessions, concerts and presentations in historical venues. In addition the course offers a range of voluntary activities such as yoga, dancing, progressive relaxation, choral conducting , classical improvisation techniques, and a drop-in clinic for further vocal technique and advice. The working atmosphere is friendly and supportive. Rehearsals and workshops will be given in Portuguese and/or English depending on the tutor; translators are always available.
Capella Duriensis, who have recently recorded 'Portuguese Vocal Masterpieces of the 16th and 17th Centuries' for the Naxos label. have performed concerts throughout Portugal, and in the UK (Bristol, Wells and Truro Cathedrals; St. George's in Hanover Square, London). They have also received invitations to the Netherlands (Oude Muziek Festival, Utrecht) and Croatia (Musical Evenings in St. Donat, Zadar). They have considerable experience in performing and researching the historical music of Portugal, and were invited to coordinate a series of musical programmes 'Music of the Mediaeval Rites' for the European Broadcasting Union based around the music of the Braga Rite (O Rito Bracarense).
